“You must be either be a company registered in the United States, United Kingdom, or
Canada (excluding Quebec) or an individual legally resident in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada
(excluding Quebec) that is 18 years or older and at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction of residence to enter.”

    APAC here.

I get the fact that it’s a lot of legal legwork to get even trivial competitions approved in multiple jurisdictions, and that APAC is still somewhat insignificant for SFDC, but given the size of the burgeoning developer communities in places like India, South America and Eastern Europe where $10k to the average hacker is WAY more significant than in the US/UK/Canada, Salesforce is (again) missing a big opportunity to encourage platform innovation from outside their core audience.

Please widen the scope of future challenges.

Hey Jeremy, thanks for you comment. The contest, is, in fact, open to India. We went back and forth with legal for quite a while and that language was in the draft that did include India, so I’m unsure where it went. I will get them to update it again and repost.

Meanwhile, if people from other countries would like to participate, we would still love to have their entries! The only limitation, of course, is that we cannot award the prizes to those countries not included but they can still win notoriety and fame.

The issue with widening the contest is that laws on contests are in direct conflict with separate jurisdictions. Our legal team has been working for a long time to create contest language that would be legal but it is a very slow process apparently.
